Transportation Introduction
Marion is located along Interstate 55, four miles north of its junction with Interstate 40 and nine miles east of the Arkansas/Tennessee state line, Memphis, and the Mississippi River. It is bisected by US Highways 64 and 61; is 10 miles south of US Highway 63 and five miles north of US Highway 70. River Travel and Transportation
Marion is located eight miles from the Port of West Memphis on the Mississippi River. The port, located at river mile 727, is 626 miles by barge above the Port of New Orleans.
Airport Facilities
West Memphis Municipal Airport (four miles). Offers 6,000-foot runway, paved surface and taxiway, lighted approach, full ILS, aviation fuel service, T-hangar rental, charter passenger and freight service. Memphis International Airport (18 miles). Offers full commercial service including nonstop trans-Atlantic flights via KLM; passenger hub for Northwest; Federal Express hub. Other general aviation facilities are available in northern Shelby County, TN; northern DeSoto County, MS; and Mississippi County, AR; all are within a 50-mile radius of Marion. Burlington Northern Santa Fe, main line and spur. Intermodal facility located one mile north of Marion. Union Pacific Railroad, main line. Intermodal facility located in the western part of Marion. Former Southern Pacific line runs south of West Memphis, approximately eight miles from Marion.
